Notes on Paper 20: ACCEPTED
Paper # 20: Design Patterns: The Devils in the Detail
by Cinneide and Fagan.
This is not a pattern paper per se. It is a paper about quirks of
using three of the GOF patterns (Abstract Factory, Singleton and
Facade). It focuses on the problems that arise when these patterns are
used in larger scale, industrial systems.
I STRONGLY recommend that this paper be ACCEPTED.
It is very well written. The arguments that they make are supported by
data and by a good discussion of the issues. The authors have been
very responsive to email and we've had a good discussion of the paper
and its foibles. This paper was very hard to shepherd because it is so
well written. I couldn't find unclear things to comment on.
I think that this would be a very interesting paper to hear discussed
at PLoP and think that it should be accepted.
