PLoP 2006 Shepherded Papers

Notes on Paper 46: ACCEPTED

Here is my report about Kim, Mehta, and Gokhale's paper.

--The main topic of this paper is to show access control patterns
expresssed in a special notation for patterns developed by I.Ray amd R.
France. Access control patterns have appeared before, I published very
much the same patterns in PLoP 2001, but their formulation is
interesting.

--The paper required drastic revision but the authors were very open to
suggestions and did a good job in remodeling it.

--I have some objections about the specific patterns from a security
standpoint, but I think the way of expressing patterns goes beyond the
specific patterns and could be of interest for PLoP.

In summary, I think this paper can be accepted. I intend to send them
more comments if the paper is accepted.

I'll tell the authors to upload the latest version. I am traveling and
don't have access to my files. I am carrying a printout of their latest
version that arrived around July 28.

Saludos,
Ed

This paper describes three patterns on access control. It also
introduces a notation to express roles in UML. The ideas are quite
similar to Dirk Reihle's, but they don't seem to be aware of his work,
so I told them about it.

Not a great paper, but OK. These guys would benefit from coming to
PLoP. I think we should accept it.
