Shepherded Papers
Notes on Paper 51
The authors told us that this paper was shepherded for
one of the
Europlops and accepted for workshopping, but the authors couldn't go
and so it didn't happen. I did not shepherd this paper, it came late
and we didn't have time, though I did send them a little feedback. This
is my evaluation of the paper.
The English is good and the paper is easy to read. From a stylistic
point of view, they did a good job. My main concern is that the
patterns tend to be principles, not patterns. The suggestions are
vague and hard to follow. Some of the names are bad, but the authors
know it and have comments in the paper about alternative names. (I
like that.)
The paper has three patterns about privacy; Informed Consent, Masking
Your Online Traffic, and Minimal Information Asymmetry. The first one
seems a pattern to me, but the last two are really principles. In
fact, Informed Consent is a pattern that will help minimize information
asymmetry. The first principle is basically for clients to minimize
the data they release and the second is for clients to maximize the
data they receive. Informed Consent is something servers do to give
more information to clients.
I think the authors will get a lot out of the workshopping experience
and, if there is room, I recommend the paper be accepted.
